HBO Max reveals: Harry Potter series starts Christmas 2026 – These are the first details

It is official: HBO Max has confirmed that the long-awaited Harry Potter series will premiere on Christmas Day 2026. The new production based on J.K. Rowling's novels promises a more faithful adaptation than the films of the 2000s.

According to the streaming service, each of the seven books will receive its own season, allowing previously neglected storylines to finally get the attention they deserve. Fans can look forward to characters like Peeves the Poltergeist and more detailed appearances by Dobby and Winky.

Filming is scheduled to have begun in the spring of 2025 at the London Warner Bros. Studios. For the lead role of young Harry Potter, a previously unknown young British actor has been cast.

Showrunner Francesca Gardiner will take over the creative direction. Ten episodes of 60 minutes each are planned per season. A Christmas debut on HBO Max – the perfect setting for a return to the Wizarding World.
